Teach Any Horse AeroHippus*
Training your horse to use an inhaler chamber
Your guide to helping your horse accept the AeroHippus® chamber. Developed in collaboration with the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, the AeroHippus® chamber is designed specifically for horses to make inhaled medication fast, easy and well tolerated.
How to Train Your Horse
Horses can learn to accept the AeroHippus® chamber when training is approached calmly and consistently. The mask fits over just one nostril, which helps keep horses calm during treatment. With patience, treats, and a step-by-step approach, most horses become comfortable with their inhaled therapy routine.
Watch the training video to see how to introduce the chamber, apply the mask, and confirm your horse is receiving medication using the Flow-Vu* indicator.

Training Steps Overview
Follow these stages to help your horse become comfortable with the AeroHippus® chamber and mask.
Step 1 - Creating Comfort
Introduce the chamber without medication. Let your horse investigate the mask and chamber at their own pace.
Step 2 - Building Confidence
Practice applying the mask briefly over one nostril, rewarding calm behaviour after each short session.
Step 3 - Introducing the Mask
Extend the time the mask stays in place while your horse breathes normally through the chamber.
Step 4 - Extending the Duration
Build up to the full 3 to 5 breaths needed while watching the Flow-Vu* indicator move with each inhalation.
Step 5 - Inhaling the Medication
Puff the prescribed medication into the chamber, apply the mask, and confirm delivery using the Flow-Vu* indicator.
A little training for a lifetime of safer therapy
Reward-based training helps your horse accept inhaled medications with less stress for both of you. Investment in AeroHippus® training supports your horse's respiratory health while avoiding the side effects of long-term systemic steroids.
ALWAYS consult and follow the instructions of your veterinarian before giving your horse any medication. Only use inhalers as prescribed by your veterinarian.
Keep riding. Help your horse perform its best.
The AeroHippus® chamber delivers inhaled medications directly to the lungs using lower doses with fewer side effects than oral prednisone or dexamethasone — so your horse can stay active and comfortable.
